Oh hi, I didn’t see you there.

panajachelIt’s been a long time. Like, a really long time. For some reason I decided that blogging wasn’t as important to me anymore. It’s interesting, I think I can directly correlate the increased interest in photography with the decline in my writing. What I find remarkable is the fact that my creative compulsions were mostly satisfied with photography — completely replacing writing. Who knows what the real reason is. Blame it on the amount of academic writing I do, blame it on my likelihood to browse flickr or edit a photo in leu of writing a blog post.

Anyhow, quite a lot has been going on. This has been a pretty good year in terms of academics. I’ve finished up classes (I think I hope I pray), got a bunch of new publications (see the academic page), about to deposit my master’s project, taking the qualifying exam and giving my dissertation proposal in the fall, presenting at W2SP Co-located with Oakland, and in general, really enjoying all the things I’m working on. I’m a bit stretched to my limits when considering academics and outside interests, but now, more than ever, the work is piled on but I seem to be managing a whole lot better.

Anyway, the world of climbing keeps getting better and better for me. I’ve really been enjoying routes lately and I am itching to get my first trad lead. Did I mention that I lead a 5.12b in the Red River Gorge? No, I didn’t redpoint it, but it felt great to be working problems that hard on lead. Especially outdoors.

Also, if you haven’t seen my flickr account lately, you are missing some of my best work to date.

Ta ta for now.
