So it begins!
Posted by Steve Hanna on September 27th, 2007 filed in Mostly Worthless, Random, Technical Tags: parents, research, schoolGraduate school is in full swing now, whatever that means. My classes are fairly decent so far, and for my class projects I’ll be working with John Bethencourt. It’s shaping up to be a fairly awesome semester; especially because he invited me to go to Disneyland next weekend! Eventually I may post our proposed project details, or maybe I’ll be lazy and wait until we’re finished. Probably the latter.
I visited my parents for the first time since they moved to LA aaaaand I got to see Ryan for an afternoon before he headed back to Ohio! Needless to say, I had an excellent time and it really beats calling home the Midwest. My parents live between Santa Monica and Venice Beach in Marina Del Rey and each of the aforementioned places have tons of things to do; so I never found myself bored. I managed to go on a bike ride with my dad and explore Venice Beach a bit. I felt that the long weekend was far to short as I hopped onto the plane on the following Monday morning. Oh well, I am certain I will visit again soon, now I have even more motivation. Here are some pictures.
When I got back, I gave a presentation for the ICSI/ICIR/CCEID meeting regarding the research I did this summer, you can see the presentation here.
I’ll be heading back to UIUC for the Reflections Projections Conference in a few weeks. It will give me a chance to visit some friends and attend some…talks..if I can make it to them. Mostly, I will be checking out Chris, Frank and Kurt’s Beer Brew’n operation.
That was my life in a nutshell over the past few weeks. Other than that, I’ve been reading a lot of research papers, a few books.
climbing with people, and chatting a lot online.
God, I am bored.
