Small tutorial update and a Doppleganger

So, after so many emails over the past year regarding a segfault when attempting to use examples from my tutorial, I finally decided to update the FAQ. Go figure, you would have though that I would have done this after the 3rd email, not the 50th. Anyhow, check out the Shellcoding for Linux and Windows Tutorial and learn how to disable randomized virtual memory and stack execution in Fedora. Yay, you’re one step closer to learning an art of computer hacking that is quickly becoming an anachronism! Just skip it and learn some AJAX and XSS people, it is a lot more applicable in the land of Web 2.0.

Apparently, I have a doppleganger, in name only of course. Your friendly neighborhood Atlas informed me of that this morning when he thought a slashdotted article had a quote given by me. It turns out there is another Steve Hanna who is involved with the TPM (Trusted Platform Module). It’s kind of scary, because hardware based security and attestation is one of my main fields of interest. It’s okay though, I think I am winning the arms race, I am already the first hit on google for steve hanna. I like to think I am the sexier, hipper, younger version in the security world. Hopefully we will never meet, because that would mean complete annihilation of us both..he must be made of antiparticles or something…
