iTunes Unsupported Display Balderdash!
Posted by Steve Hanna on June 15th, 2007 filed in Technical Tags: BSOD, directx, gdi, itunesI’ve been having trouble with iTunes lately. It seems whenever I locked my computer or whenever it auto locked iTunes would crash with a display unsupported error. This problem seemed to be fairly nondeterministic, as sometimes it would do this and other times it would not. After some simple experimenting, it turns out that due to the fact I am running dual displays, iTunes decides to burn in righteous fire depending on the current display that iTunes is using. After moving iTunes to another display it worked flawlessly. After some searching, it turned out that you can also fix this by going to Quicktime setting in the control panel and adjusting the properties so that the imaging library uses GDI+ (in lieu of directx).
I’ve also been getting stop errors when plugging in my iPod for updating (yes, BSOD type of stop error). I left my dock at work today, so here’s to hoping that the problem is fully resolved. I’ll update this post when I find out.

Another fix I’ve found is to simply keep iTunes un-maximized, and instead just resize it manually to full size. The problem goes away then.
